As the 2027 Niger State governorship election approaches, the people of Niger State are increasingly examining the records, ideas and public service contributions of those seeking to lead them.
One of the contenders attracting attention is Barrister Mohammed Ndarani Mohammed, SAN, the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate, whose reported philanthropic activities, legal engagements and development advocacy have featured in discussions about the future of the state.
Ndarani’s reported humanitarian interventions include the provision of more than 80 solar-powered boreholes, scholarship support for over 120 university students, financial assistance to small-scale beneficiaries, and a reported donation of 30 million naira to victims of the devastating Mokwa floods.
These interventions highlight critical needs in access to clean water, education, economic empowerment and emergency relief. While philanthropy cannot replace government responsibility, it can provide meaningful support to vulnerable individuals and communities.
Beyond humanitarian assistance, Ndarani’s legal practice has drawn attention to the rights of communities affected by major infrastructure projects.
His reported representation of the Samboro community in a compensation dispute linked to the Zungeru Hydropower Dam underscores the importance of protecting livelihoods, addressing environmental concerns and ensuring that development does not come at the expense of affected residents.
He is also associated with legal advocacy concerning Niger State’s claims to benefits linked to electricity generation.
The outcome of such proceedings, subject to the applicable legal framework, could have implications for discussions about resource distribution and development funding.
Another issue on his development agenda is the activation of Baro Inland Port in Agaie Local Government Area. If supported by the necessary infrastructure, investment and effective management, the port could strengthen trade, improve agricultural logistics and create employment opportunities across the state.
Ndarani has also advocated constitutional recognition of the roles of traditional rulers and greater autonomy for Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. These proposals raise important questions about grassroots governance, community leadership, accountability and the effective delivery of public services.
However, the ultimate test of any political candidate is not simply the interventions already undertaken or the promises made, but the ability to translate ideas into sustainable, measurable results.
As Niger State looks towards 2027, voters deserve credible leadership, practical development plans, transparency and accountability.
For Ndarani SAN, his reported philanthropic contributions, legal engagements and development advocacy form part of the case being presented to the electorate.
The final decision rests with the people of Niger State, who must carefully assess every candidate’s record, vision and capacity to deliver.
This is the moment for informed choices, responsible leadership and a future that puts the welfare of Niger State’s people first.
