Prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside their supporters from across Zuru Emirate, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.
Receiving the defectors on Saturday in Zuru, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, described their decision to join the APC as a welcome development and assured them of equal treatment, justice and fairness within the party.
“You should embrace the APC as your political party. It is a party that fulfils its promises and is committed to delivering good governance,” the Governor said.
Governor Idris also assured the people of Zuru Emirate of his administration’s commitment to addressing their infrastructural needs, particularly the Zuru–Ribah Road. He disclosed that he had already contacted the Federal Ministry of Works to assess the road for rehabilitation, despite its being a federal road.
“I have called on the Ministry of Works to assess the road for rehabilitation,” he stated.
In his address, the APC State Chairman, Abubakar Kana-Zuru, welcomed the defectors and commended them for joining the party. He assured them of equal treatment, justice and fairness, describing the APC as a platform for promoting unity, development and improved welfare across the area.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, a former PDP member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly and Dr. Aliyu Muhammad Ana’s Gujiya, who also defected from the ADC, said their decision was motivated by their desire to support the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, citing the Governor’s developmental projects as a major reason for their move.
The defectors commended Governor Idris for his administration’s development initiatives and pledged their commitment to supporting his government.
“Our decision is in the interest of the state. The ADC and PDP are not parties that one can rely on,” the representative said.
