NIGER STATE ORGANIZED LABOUR CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO ON “GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR” AWARD 2026

The Organised Labour, Niger State, under the dynamic and purposeful leadership of Comrade Ambassador Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene, has congratulated Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, on his prestigious recognition as “Governor of the Year” at the Times Heroes Award.
He described the governor as a Farmer, Teacher for a “Well-Deserved Recognition of Visionary Leadership, Agricultural Transformation and People-Centred Governance.”
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Niger State chapter, Comrade Abdulkareem Idris Lafene in Minna, said the remarkable honour is not merely an award, but a recognition of visionary leadership, purposeful governance, innovation, courage and the unwavering determination to reposition Niger State for sustainable development and prosperity.
Lafene stressed that Governor Bago has, through his administration’s policies and programmes, continued to demonstrate that leadership is about transforming ideas into tangible development that positively impacts the lives of the people.
He added that the present administration’s strong emphasis on agriculture, food production, infrastructure, human capital development and economic empowerment has continued to attract attention beyond the borders of Niger State.
According to him, “as the Farmer Governor, His Excellency has placed agriculture at the centre of his development agenda, championing mechanised farming and encouraging Niger State to maximise its enormous agricultural potential”.

He further maintained that his vision of transforming the state into a major agricultural hub remains a significant step towards food security, employment creation and economic diversification.
The Niger State Organised Labour, therefore, acknowledges the Governor’s constructive relationship with the Labour Movement and his willingness to engage with workers’ representatives on matters concerning the welfare, productivity and progress of workers in the state.
They particularly commend his commitment to building a stronger Niger State where workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, youths, women and other productive segments of society can contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
Comrade Lafene noted that the award comes at a time when the people of Niger State are witnessing a renewed determination to unlock the enormous potentials of the state.
Comrade Abdulkareem Idrees Lafene, on behalf of the entire Organised Labour, Niger State, celebrates the well-deserved achievement and assures the governor of Labour’s continued commitment to constructive partnership, dialogue and collective efforts towards the advancement of Niger State.
They prayed that Almighty God will continue to grant the Farmer-Teacher Governor wisdom, strength, good health and the courage to deliver even greater accomplishments for the people of Niger State.
