SPORTS :  First Bago Inter collegiate Games End With IBBU Lapai Emerges Winner

Niger State Sports Commission have concluded its first Bago Inter collegiate Games competition with Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai emerged first position with a total of 34 medals consisting of 14 gold, 10 silver, 10 bronze.
This was announced after the final football match when Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai defeated Ahmadu Sanda College of Education Minna with one goal to nothing at Bako Kontagora stadium in Minna, Niger state capital.
While Abdulkadir Kure University Minna emerged second with 49 medals consisting of 11 gold, 23 silver and 15 bronze and Ahmadu Umaru Sanda College of Education Minna had 21 medals consisting of 9 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze to came third position.
Meanwhile, Newgate University Minna emerged fourth position with a total of 15 medals, 8 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze just as Niger State Polytechnic Zungeru 5th position with 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze among others.
The competition was organized by the
Niger State Sports Commission as parts of its strategy for talent hunt to catch them young involving eleven tertiary institutions out of thirteen that registered for the games involving in football, squash, Scrabble, athletics, caratty and Chase.
The Commission’s Chairman Danjuma Abdullahi Masu said that the success recorded was out of hardwork, dedication, resilient in the spirit of sportsmanship of unity and progress handed over the flag to the next host and overall winner IBBU Lapai.
He stressed that the aim at uniting the students and hunting talents to bring out the best in them for future sports tournament has been successful, assured the the competition has come to stay in Niger state, however congratulated all students for the participation despite academic activities.
The Commissioner Ministry of Sports Development Abubakar Umar Abule represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Nuhu Ngaski applauded the commission for the competition towards grassroot sports development in Niger state.
The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, Prof Hadi Suleiman expressed satisfaction with the performance of his students, described as a challenge to do more as the next host right of the competition, calling for the support of the state government and other stakeholders to succeed.
The winner’s Captain expressed happiness for the victory that came through hardwork and dedication assuring to thrive for professional football in the future.
The event witnessed the presentation to the Vice Chancellors, Provosts, Rectors of the Tertiary institutions that participated in the Games and prominent personalities in the state, medals to the participants of the competition.
