Nami declares for  Niger South Senate bid, unvels community employment initiatives

Former Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service  Muhammad Nami has formally declared his intention to contest for the Senatorial seat of  Niger South (Zone A ) in the 2027 general elections.

The event attracted a massive crowd of supporters, party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, women associations, and top officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who gathered to witness what many described as a defining moment in the political history of the area.

In a demonstration of his commitment to human capital development and community advancement, Nami announced several life-changing educational and empowerment initiatives aimed at uplifting youths and supporting vulnerable families across the zone.

Among the initiatives unveiled were scholarship packages for qualified university candidates to study various professional courses, as well as a commitment to purchase Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for prospective students annually over the next ten years.

Addressing his supporters and admirers, Nami, who is also the Majin Raba Nupe disclosed that he recently returned from a months-long leadership and capacity-building programme, which he said further equipped him with the knowledge, competence, and leadership skills required to effectively serve his people and humanity.

According to him, “I am here to personally offer myself for service to my people and humanity.”

“I am here to seek your mandate to serve as your Senator and to represent you diligently, just as I did during my tenure as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), while continuing to invest in humanity for greater prosperity.”he said.

Nami emphasised that his ambition is driven by genuine passion for service and development, rather than personal enrichment.

The former FIRS Chairman further reiterated his lifelong commitment to philanthropy and community service through the Niger South Foundation, stressing that his humanitarian efforts would continue irrespective of political office.

“I want to continue the philanthropic work I have been doing over the past 33 years in my business undertakings and public life through the Niger South Foundation,” he stressed.

In one of the major highlights of the event, Nami announced a comprehensive ten-year educational support programme for students in his community.

According to him, whether elected or not, he would: Sponsor all pupils in the primary section of the Police Secondary School, Nami, for the next ten years;

Sponsor fifty students annually into the secondary section of the Police Secondary School, Nami, for the next ten years, covered the school fees, Junior and Senior WAEC examination fees, as well as NECO examination fees for the beneficiaries; and to as well sponsor three qualified candidates annually to study courses such as Accountancy, ICT, and Medicine at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University.

Nami explained that the gesture should not be viewed as a mere campaign promise, but rather as a sincere sacrifice and contribution towards the advancement and prosperity of his people.

The Senate aspirant also highlighted several landmark projects already executed through his Foundation across communities in Nami-Boku Ward, particularly in Nami town.

The projects include the establishment of a world-class rural hospital, one of Nigeria’s best Police Secondary Schools, a modern Police Station serving the community and neighbouring villages, as well as the facilitation of an ICT Centre through the National Information Technology Development Agency at the Police Secondary School, Nami.

Other interventions executed by the Foundation include the provision of power transformers to twelve rural communities within the ward, including the Police Secondary School, Nami, thereby improving electricity supply and enhancing socio-economic activities in the affected communities.

Speaking at the event, the APC Chairman of Nami-Boku Ward, Alhaji Muhammed Umar Takuti, expressed profound appreciation to Muhammad Nami for what he described as years of selfless service and uncommon dedication to the development of the community.

Takuti assured the aspirant of the ward’s overwhelming support and pledged to mobilise party members and residents across the area to ensure the success of his senatorial bid.

He noted that it would be a historic moment and a source of pride for the people of Nami-Boku Ward and Agaie local government area to have one of their own elected into the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
