AKUM Matriculates 1,426 Students for 2025/26 Academic Session

The Niger State owed Abdulkadir Kure University (AKUM) Minna has matriculated 1426 students for the 2025/2026 academic session while charging them to shun all kinds of social vices to be good ambassadors.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko made this known while addressing the newly admitted students of the institute at the main campus in Minna, urging them to study hard to secure brighter future for themselves during their studies.

He explained that the welfare of students is paramount to the management of the institution adding that students are being trained on how to become self reliance and employers of labour after graduation not to be job seekers.

The VC maintained that the University is the fastest growing institution in the country, saying that within three years with one faculty to the current seven faculties to include: Education, management, environmental, Allied and medical, computing, sustainable agriculture and engineering and innovation sciences respectively.

According to him, “224  students the Abdulkadir Kure University have gotten the approval to benefit from NELFUND adding that,  “the fund has been made available to the institution waiting disbursement”.

Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko then announced a compulsory medical and substance test for all new students in compliance with the directives of the Federal Ministry of Education, where those who are found with sickness will be quarantined for treatment and those who are positive in substance test would be counselled to closely monitored for rehabilitation.

The Vice Chancellor revealed that similar exercise was conducted last year during which less than one percent were affected and treated accordingly to be cured of their sicknesses.

He expressed appreciation to the state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago for his commitment towards the educational and infrastructural development of the institution within the last 3 years of its establishment.

He stated, “the university has grown from one faculty with 86 pioneer students to 806 last year and now 1,426 this academic session spread across 7 academic faculties”.

Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya who also represented the University visitor said AKUM is a product of vision, innovation and competitive ness due to its unique ness of opportunity and knowledge it provided that has keyed in to the imaging realities of global development.

He called on the parents and students to take advantage provided by the University especially in its innovation to be job creators and not the usual obtaining certificates to be job seekers in the country.
