Gbako- Katcha Maintains Its Stance on House of Representative Seat for 2027 Elections

The Elders Forums from Katcha and Gbako local government areas of Niger state have maintained its zoning stance on the Federal House of Representative representing Bida/Katcha/Gbako seat to be zoned to either Katcha or Gbako councils come 2027 elections.

The Chairman, Katcha Concerned Stakeholders Forum who is also the Interface Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Katcha made the clarification after its another interface meeting amidst controversial endorsement held in Minna.

Abubakar Katcha reiterated that they have resolved to ensure the sustainability of the zoning formular for justice, fairness and inclusiveness, noting that currently the two aspirants for Katcha and Gbako are Mohammed Yakubu Esheti and Baba Abubakar Chegungi.

According to him, the attention the Gbako and Katcha interface committee was drawn on the need endorsement of Honourable Musa Saidu Abdul (SMA) by some group of individuals from Gbako- Katcha local government areas as their personal opinion which does not reflect the position of Gbako- Katcha stakeholders. That their action was null and void which can not stand.

The former commissioner emphasized that the interface committee has maintained that the house of representative seat representing Bida-Katcha- Gbako federal constituency should be either Katcha or Gbako because had done twelve years instead of eight in a normal zoning arrangement.

Also speaking, former commissioner Sunday Kolo Emigi who is also Chegungi’s Campaign Director General stressed that the zoning formular was instituted by the late Etsu Nupe Alhaji Umaru Sanda Ndayeko and any deliberate attempt to disrupt the system by individuals or groups is uncalled for and unfortunate.

It could be recalled that out of the three local councils that consisted of the federal constituency only Katcha local government that is left without any position, Bida has the Governor and House of Representative, Gbako has the position of the Minister and Senator hence the need to allow Katcha to produce the next house of representative to ensure balance and sustainable zoning formular.
