Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, Mourns 37 Mining Youths in Niger, Calls for Indepth Investigation

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of thirty-seven youths reportedly involved in mining activities who died in the custody of the NSCDC in Niger State.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar described the incident as a painful loss to the families of the victims, their communities, Niger State and Nigeria as a whole.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength for those affected by the tragedy.
The former Head of State also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, stressing the need for authorities to establish the facts and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent a recurrence.
He urged relevant government agencies and stakeholders to strengthen safety measures at mining sites, particularly to protect young people whose livelihoods depend on mining and other economic activities.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar further appealed for calm among the affected communities, while calling on the authorities to provide necessary support to the victims’ families and ensure that the incident receives appropriate attention.
