The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied reports suggesting that it included funds in the 2026 budget to purchase houses in Abuja for its members.

Naija News reports that officials of the Assembly called the claim false and misleading, warning that it is meant to confuse the public.

In a statement released by Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, and Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, the Assembly clarified that there is no allocation for buying homes in Abuja or anywhere outside Lagos.

They described the story as baseless and politically motivated.

The Assembly explained that its work, responsibilities, and constituencies are entirely within Lagos State.

The Assembly described as illogical, claims that public money would be used for personal housing outside the state.

The lawmakers also reminded the public that the full budget is available for review and shows the government’s efforts to meet the needs of Lagos residents while managing resources responsibly.

Officials noted that the capital expenditure for the House of Assembly in 2026 accounts for less than 0.04% of the state’s total capital spending.

They said this demonstrates the Assembly’s careful and accountable use of funds, adding that in previous years, it often did not fully utilize its approved budget.

The statement urged Lagosians to ignore the false reports and to rely on official sources for accurate information.

The Assembly warned that those spreading the story could face legal action if they fail to provide evidence to support their claims.

The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, good governance, and promoting the welfare of Lagos residents, aligning with the goals of the 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity.
