Niger Constructs Over 1,000km  Roads to Mark 3 Year Anniversary

Niger State government has said to have embarked on the construction of over 1,000 Kilometers of road across the 25 local government areas in the last 3 years of the current administration in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, Engr. Hassan Baba Etsu made the disclosure at a press briefing to mark the 3 Year Anniversary of Governor Mohammad Umaru Bago administration, coordinated by the Ministry of Information and Orientation held in Minna.

He further revealed that the state government is also constructing (6) flyovers as well as (1)under pass bridge all under the New Niger Agenda policy of the present All Progressives Congress APC led government.

Hassan Baba Etsu explained that in Bida local government alone 45 Kilometers Bida Ring Road is ongoing, construction of 100 kilometers within Minna the state capital, 556 kilometers consisting of 5 kilometers across the 25 local councils that have created both skilled and unskilled jobs by the constitution companies.

He stressed that state government  awarded contract for the construction of 5 kilometer of roads across all the (25) local councils of Niger.

According to him, all the contacts was awarded in compliance with the due process and in line with the public procurement laws, adding that the state ministry of work is accountable to all the contracts awarded, revealed that 40% of the ongoing road projects are ready for commissioning.

QS Hassan noted that to improve on federal roads across Niger State,Bago administration has awarded contract for the construction of Kontagora -Rijau road,now under construction,

Wawa -down to Babanana road and many others under construction.

He added that the state executive council also recently awarded contract for the construction of 13 kilometer road from Mararaba Dandauda to Kuta, in Shiroro local council,saying that the massive road projects in Niger is unprecedented and had never happen anyway in the country.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Health,Dr Murtala Mohammad Bagana noted that Bago administration has built 20 level two primary health care centers with a perfect parameter fencing, staff quarters, 2 components of staff, Labour Room, Laboratories, and dedicated Doctors to all the centers.

Dr Bagana explained further that Niger state has 22 secondary health care centers identified as general hospitals, and two tertiary health care centers to include; IBB Specialist Hospital Minna and Federal medical center Bida owned by the federal government providing the needed services. While governor Bago’s administration has employed over 2,000 health workers in the last 3 years.

On Education, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Hadiza Asabe Mohammad, pointed out that the state government has improved on the feeding of all 53 boarding schools across the state.

“Our boarding schools are well feed with good food, the atmosphere in these schools are habitable”.

She explained that all the board schools in the vulnerable localities confronted with banditry remain closed until further notice.
