The faction of the Labour Party (LP) loyal to Abia State Governor Alex Otti has warned the sacked National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, against any attempt to appeal recent court judgments that effectively removed him from office.

In an interview with the Punch, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, warned that any appeal by Abure is an exercise in futility.

Speaking through her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, Usman asserted that any attempt to appeal the case might be a tactic to buy time and prolong internal litigation, a situation that could jeopardise the party’s ability to effectively participate in upcoming elections.

“And if it is a ploy to buy time for himself, people can now begin to see the kind of character we’re dealing with in the Labour Party. The question is, is he trying to buy time so that the Labour Party will be in a protracted litigation, and the thing will culminate in the Labour Party not producing candidates in the coming election? Is that what he wishes for his party?

“But it is good and fine that the courts have taken judicial notice of the fact that political activities have started. So I’m pretty sure that when this matter gets to the appeal court, it will expedite the proceedings, knowing that it needs to be done for political parties to get into the main business of the politicking for 2027,” she stated.

The faction maintained that Abure’s removal was not recent but dates back to the Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025, warning against any attempt to re-litigate the matter.

She said, “But we are embracing peace, and extended the olive branch to them. It is high time they threw in the towel, knowing that this fight is a lost battle. This is a judgment that was clearly delivered on the 4th of April 2025. Julius Abure wasn’t just sacked on the 21st of January 2026. He was sacked on the 4th of April 2025.

“The Federal High Court in Abuja few days ago only reaffirmed the judgments of the Supreme Court already given in April last year. It’s a contempt of court. It is a denigration of that hallowed chamber called the Supreme Court for him to go back and re-litigate a matter that has been decisively dealt with by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“He has no case going forward. But we are extending the hand of fellowship to them so that we all can sit down and work out the way going forward for our party. We are not apprehensive in any way.”
