The Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has called for the resumption of gratuity payments in both state and local government systems, implementation of new minimum pension and settlement of pension arrears in the state.

The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Abdulkareem Lafene made the disclosure during the workers Day celebration at 1-2-3 quarters in Minna, urging the state of to address the prolonged stagnation in promotion within the local government system since 2015, full implementation of agreements with the joint unions of IBBUL

The organized union however, appreciate the extension of service years for the teachers at both levels, implementation of Grade level 17 in the LG service, introduction of wage awards for LG teachers to bridge the gap between the state and council workers salary

Comrade Lafene also called for strengthening of security architecture through community based approach to safety, sustain investments in agriculture, a sustainable wage system that reflects current economic reality

He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the NLC in the state to remain commitment to dialogue but will remain firm in defense of workers lives in fear of deprivation in all ramifications.

In his speech, the Niger state governor Mohammed Umar Bago represented by the deputy governor comrade Yakubu Garba reassured the determination of the state government to be welfare and wellbeing of workers and will continue to strengthen its cordial relationship.

He noted the recognition of the challenges confronting the state workforce is the government is working tirelessly to improve the well-being of the workers despite other state commitments in delivering effective and efficient service to the citizenry.
