The Armed Forces of Nigeria have concluded investigations into cases involving 16 military officers arrested over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, with some of them set to face trial before military judicial panels.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

Uba recalled that the Defence Headquarters had announced the arrest of the officers in October 2025, adding that investigations had now been completed in accordance with established military procedures and extant regulations.

According to him, the probe examined the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel and identified officers with cases to answer.

The defence spokesman said some of the allegations against the officers bordered on plotting to overthrow the government, describing such conduct as incompatible with the ethics, values and professional standards of the Armed Forces.

He said officers found culpable during the investigation would be arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels.

Uba stressed that the actions being taken were purely disciplinary and part of internal institutional mechanisms aimed at preserving discipline, cohesion and operational effectiveness within the military.

He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Ankara, the capital of the Republic of Turkiye, on a State Visit.

According to a statement on Monday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s plane touched down at precisely 9.03 pm local time.

Onanuga added that President Tinubu was received at Ankara Esenboğa Airport by a Turkish government delegation led by the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin. The Chargé d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Türkiye, Ambassador Zayyad Abdulsalam, and other embassy officials were also on hand to welcome him.

Naija News reports that President Tinubu’s visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Türkiye and exploring further areas of cooperation to advance a mutually beneficial partnership.

During the visit, he will hold discussions with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

There will also be the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries, among other engagements.

The All Progressives Congress has dismissed reports claiming that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.

This was contained in a statement released on January 26, 2026, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

The ruling party said it had noticed increasing reports in the media suggesting that Shettima could be dropped and that some names were already being discussed as possible replacements.

The party described the stories as false, misleading and without any basis.

The APC said there is no discussion within the party about changing the current presidential ticket, adding that the reports are driven by people who want to create tension and confusion in the country.

It warned media organisations against giving space to rumours and unverified sources whose aim is to cause division.

Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, of victory in the 2027 governorship election.

Naija News reports that Yusuf, on Monday, defected to the APC after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a move that has triggered major political realignments in Kano State, with several elected officials and party members also defecting alongside him.

While welcoming Governor Yusuf back to the APC, Ganduje declared that the party would fully back him for a second term, describing his return as historic and beneficial to both the party and the state.

Ganduje recalled that Yusuf was part of the APC at its formative stage before leaving due to political differences and realignments.

In a decisive move to curb what it described as economic sabotage, the Anambra State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Onitsha Main Market.

Daily Post gathered that the shutdown, which took effect on Monday, is for an initial period of one week.

The action followed the continued compliance of traders with the illegal Monday sit-at-home directive, despite repeated warnings by the state government.

The directive was announced after weeks of appeals by the government to traders, market leaders and residents to disengage from the sit-at-home order, which officials insist has no legal backing and has continued to cripple economic activities in the state.

A senior government official said the state could no longer tolerate the situation.

While the current closure is for one week, the government warned that if the market fails to fully reopen by next Monday, the shutdown would be extended to one month.
