NIGER: Abductees of 47 People Minority Women Demands N2 million Each

At least 47 people majority of them women has been abducted by suspected bandits while harvesting groundnuts at Tungan Rimi community in Maundu-Beri Ward of Mariga Local Government Area of Niger state

Sources informed that the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon after where women were abducted while other men were also kidnapped in nearby farms to yet to be known destination.

The chairman of Mariga local government Alhaji Aliyu Bagga Muhamadu confirmed that incident during a telephone interview in Minna, said that “47 people were abducted and report reaching me indicated that one of the woman had given birth in their custody of the abductors”.

Aliyu Bagga Muhamadu also added that the kidnappers have made contacts demanding ransom of N2 million for each of the abductees before they would be released.

According to him, military soldiers and vigilantes has been mobilized who are thrilling them to ensure the safe release of the victims, noting that the the joint team have through Kasuwan Garba and Biri confronted the armed bandits around Alibani village where one vigilante was injured in the process.

It was further revealed that the armed men were reportedly seen moving through areas between Mangoro and Wamba after allegedly emerging from the Dogon Dawa axis.

Sources further alleged that the attackers subsequently moved into the Bariki Forest, also known as Ma’undu, where the abducted persons are suspected to have been taken.

Some relatives of the victims reportedly confirmed that they had yet to establish direct contact with their loved ones or receive definitive information regarding their whereabouts. However, available information suggests that the victims may be held within the Ma’undu forest.

The abductors are demanding ransom for N2 million for each of the victims in their custody before they would be released.

When contacted the Niger state command Police Public Relations Officer PPRO SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that,

“On 28th Sept 2026, report received indicated that on 27th Sept 2026 at about 3pm, suspected bandits abducted over twenty persons at Mukura village, Kasuwan-Garba District of Mariga LGA. Joint security rescue efforts ongoing” he stated.
