Niger NLC Warns Civil Servants Against Taking Illegal Loans in the State

The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Niger State chapter has said that it is illegal for any civil servants to take an online loan or any other loans above three quarter of their salary with the consequences of outright dismissal from service.

The Chairman Niger State NLC, Comrade Idris Abdulkareem Lafene made this known while speaking to journalists in his office in Minna, while responding to a situation where some workers February 2026 salaries were deducted without prior knowledge.

He stated that nobody has come up with official complaints, assuring to attend to anyone with genuine reasons in order to reverse their money to them accordingly, also warned civil servants to avoid illegal taking of loans that discomfort them and their families especially that which is illegal.

Comrade Lafene however advised workers to take loans through their affiliate unions or cooperative Societies so that challenges can be solved with ease. He noted that those who are double salary collectors if ascertain they must pay back

This is in reaction to several complaints received from civil servants in Niger state about different salary deductions of workers claiming to be for those who took various loans from commercial banks and online platforms.

Earlier, reports indicated that many civil servants in the state had their salaries deducted indiscriminately ranging from One Hundred thousand naira, Fifty thousand naira, thirty thousand naira and even less than ten thousand naira respectively including those who are not been owned by any financial bank.

It was reliably gathered that a civil servant was hospitalized when she received her alert message due to shock of dedication she witnessed considering the crucial month of Ramadan responsibilities.
