Bournemouth have completed the signing of Greek goalkeeper Christos Mandas on loan from Serie A side Lazio, strengthening their squad ahead of the final days of the January transfer window.

Christos Mandas, 24, has joined the Cherries until the end of the season, with the deal including an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Bournemouth are paying a loan fee of 1.5m euros, around £1.3m, and would be required to pay an additional £860,000 should they decide not to take up the permanent option. If the club chooses to keep him, the transfer would be completed for a fee of £16m.

Mandas becomes Bournemouth’s first ever Greek player. He arrives with growing experience, having made 33 appearances for Lazio since his move from OFI, and has already earned two senior caps for Greece.

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Mandas said: “When I knew Bournemouth were interested, I wanted to come here.
It feels like a magical atmosphere between the players and the fans, and I like the way the team plays, so it is the right move.”

Bournemouth’s head of football operations, Tiago Pinto, believes the goalkeeper will add calm and authority to the group as he continues to develop.

“We’re excited about the impact he can make as he brings a sense of maturity and composure, while also continuing his development as a player,” Pinto said.

Mandas is the second goalkeeper to arrive at the Vitality Stadium this month following the signing of 37-year-old Fraser Forster, who joined on a six-month deal after spells with Tottenham and Celtic.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Aston Villa have made a renewed enquiry about bringing Douglas Luiz back to the club on loan. The Brazilian midfielder is currently at Nottingham Forest on loan from Juventus, but could depart before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Chelsea are also understood to be monitoring the situation, though sources close to the player have indicated that Luiz would prefer a return to Villa Park.

Luiz previously spent five years at Villa, making 204 appearances between 2019 and 2024 before being sold to Juventus last June for £42.5m to help the club meet profit and sustainability rules.

His time in Italy proved brief, with just three Serie A starts, before he joined Forest in August 2025. While his loan deal includes an obligation to buy based on appearances, that threshold has not yet been reached.

Villa manager Unai Emery is keen to strengthen his midfield options following injury setbacks. Club captain John McGinn is sidelined for up to two months with a knee problem, while Boubacar Kamara is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.

Villa had hoped to land Conor Gallagher earlier this month, but the England international chose to join Tottenham from Atletico Madrid in a £35m move.

Despite those challenges, Emery’s side continue to impress. Villa sit third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal, and have already secured qualification for the Europa League last 16 with a league-phase match still to play.

Villa are also closing in on the signing of striker Tammy Abraham, with the deal expected to be completed imminently.

The 28-year-old recently underwent a medical in the UK after Besiktas activated an £11.2m option to buy him from Roma, paving the way for an £18m move back to England.
