Niger Police Arrests Mechanic for Car Theft, Many Others for Various Crimes

The Niger State Police Command in its continued efforts to curb urban crime, made the following recent arrests based on a direct complaint that one Suleiman Anaba 32yrs of Sahonrami, Mashegu LGA, a mechanic was given a Toyota Corolla vehicle with Reg No. AG 281 BNK for repair for the past one week and the vehicle was nowhere to be found.
The Command Police Public Relations Officer PPRO SP Wasiu Abiodun in a statement issued in Minna, said the police operatives attached to Mashegu Div arrested the suspect who confessed to have stolen the vehicle.
He noted that the suspect kept it somewhere in Kontagora where he was selling the parts of the vehicle. He led the operatives to where he parked the vehicle and it was recovered. The suspect was charged to court for prosecution.
In another development, On 26th March 2026 at about 5pm, information received indicated that one Buhari Usman 25yrs of Jebba, who specialised in stealing motorcycles was sighted along Raba road, Mokwa. Police operatives of Mokwa Div moved to the location and arrested the suspect.
During interrogation, he confessed that he stole a motorcycle from a victim in Moyo via Mokwa, and he intended to sell it through one of his accomplices; one Abdullahi Suleiman of Kpege area.
Abdullahi Suleiman was also arrested and a Bajaj motorcycle was recovered. Further investigation led to the arrest of one of their gang members, Aliyu Ibrahim 26yrs of Tsyabo and another Bajaj motorcycle was recovered in his possession, which he stole from Sunti sugar company.
All the suspects have been charged to court for prosecution, and effort to locate the victims is in progress.
Similarly, it was reported at Maje Div that a Toyota Carina-E vehicle with Reg No. CQ 302 GGE was parked in front of a restaurant around Durumi Garki in Abuja after the close of work in the day to get some food, but when the driver returned, the vehicle was discovered to have been stolen.
The said vehicle was later seen on 30th March 2026 at about 1.30pm where it was parked, and tagged for sale along Kaduna road. Police operatives attached to Maje Div moved to the location and recovered the vehicle, which was identified by the owner.
The four persons arrested in connection with receiving the stolen vehicle were:
Gambo Ibrahim 23yrs of Izom Lambata – a mechanin, Sani Kabir 25yrs Kaduna road – a scrap dealer, Shuaibu Danjuma 29yrs of Gwacipe Lambata – a mechanic, and Abdulrahman Abubakar 21yrs of Izom, also a mechanic
Abiodun added that the four suspects claimed to have received the stolen vehicle from a yet-to-be-identified person, who had collected #850,000 from them for the vehicle and promised to provide the original documents, but since then, efforts to locate him proved abortive. The case is still under investigation.
The Police operatives attached to Central Police Div Minna arrested sixteen miscreants between the period of 31st March to 2nd April 2026 terrorising Angwan-Sarki and Ogbomosho area of Minna.
The suspects were arrested during a house-to-house sting operation at about 2am where the following suspects were arrested; Najeem Yakubu of Kuta road, Zakari Hussaini of Kuta road, Idris Saidu of Sabongari, Naziru Kabiru of Angwan-Sarki, Shehu Sulaiman of Ogbomosho road, Anas Abubakar of Kotun-Bola and others.
Exhibits recovered include two cutlasses, one sickle, one saw, three sticks. All suspects are under further investigation and they will soon be transferred to SCID Minna for diligent prosecution.
