A simmering social media showdown between Afrobeat figure, Seun Kuti and fans of Nigerian pop star, Wizkid, shows no sign of ending, even as others try to calm tensions.

The disagreement gained attention online after Wizkid’s supporters, often referred to as Wizkid FC, reacted to statements from Seun, son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Attempts by some to act as peacemakers have so far failed, with neither Seun nor many of Wizkid’s fans backing down.

In an Instagram video, Seun made it clear that he is not persuaded by suggestions that Wizkid has shown respect for Fela simply by having the late music legend’s name or image associated with him.

Seun addressed Wizkid directly, saying, “Your game of replacing Fela has been stopped. Your infiltration of my family has been stopped, and nobody in the world will ever take you seriously when you try to leech off that legacy again.”

He also took aim at Wizkid’s tattoo, which references Fela, and told him to change it, “And my father’s tattoo on your hand, if you don’t take it off, you will never make any progress with that hand again. You should better replace that tattoo with your father’s face.”

In another comment aimed at a fellow artist, Burna Boy, Seun said, “If Burna Boy could come out and say Fela is greater, who is this short man?”

Seun is not alone in expressing his views. Several of his siblings and other family members have issued sharp warnings to Wizkid as the online exchange continued.

Meanwhile, many of Wizkid’s supporters appear to be enjoying the back‑and‑forth, with some turning the interaction into memes and commentary across social media platforms.

Amid the public dispute, Wizkid released his much‑anticipated documentary, Long Live Lagos, which premiered on HBO in the past few days.
