Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has celebrated a significant moment in his career after winning his first trophy with Qatari side Al Ahli, following their success in the UAE-Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup.

Al Ahli defeated UAE outfit Al Jazira in a tense encounter decided by penalties, sealing a 4-3 shootout victory after the game ended level at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday night.

The win handed the Doha-based club first title of the 2025-2026 season.

Troost-Ekong, who recently completed a move to Al Ahli from Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood, did not feature in the match.

Even so, the triumph represents a memorable start to life at his new club and an encouraging sign of what lies ahead.

The 32-year-old defender signed a deal that will keep him at Al Ahli until June 2028, committing his future to one of Qatar’s most established sides.

His arrival is seen as a major boost for the club as they look to strengthen their defensive unit and compete more forcefully in domestic and regional competitions.

A seasoned campaigner, Troost-Ekong brings a wealth of experience gathered across Europe and the Middle East.

He has previously played for clubs including Watford and Fenerbahçe, and remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable football figures, having captained the Super Eagles on the international stage.
