Wife of President Tinubu Dqclares Niger State as Agriculture Hub, Flags off 2026 Distribution of Farming Support

The wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Bola Tinubu has said that Niger State has earned its place as one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural hubs, following the state commitments in showing that agriculture remains the most practical path to prosperity, job creation, and sustainable development.
She made the declaration during the flag off of the 2026 farming season and distribution of Mechanization support equipments of 250 tractors, 50 combine harvesters, and 150,000 bags of fertilizer, a move designed to boost productivity and accelerate the adoption of mechanized agriculture in Minna.
According to her, “Nigeria is ready to feed herself. It signals a deliberate transition from subsistence practices to modern, mechanised, and commercially viable agriculture.This gesture will no doubt empower our farmers with the tools needed to increase productivity, enhance livelihoods, and strengthen the GDP”.
Oluremi added that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has made it clear in 2023 that food availability and affordability must be treated as national priorities. With the direct support to farmers through the release of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs.
While commending the Niger State Government however, noted that the initiative is in align with the vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President on boosting agriculture for food self-sufficiency.
In his speech, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state said the launchoff a large-scale agricultural intervention programme aimed at revitalizing farming activities and strengthening food production across the state.
The governor revealed that the 250 (75Hp) Tractors to be distributed across our 25 local government areas; 10 tractors per local government to bring the much needed mechanisation to the grass-root. While the 50 combined multi crop harvesters to cut harvest time and reduce past-harvest losses of between 40 to 90% depending on the crop.
He added that the 1500 farming implements comprising planters, boom sprayers, plough, harrows to make every hectare maximally productive. Just like as the 150, 000 bags of Fertilizers to support 40,000 small-holder farmers across the 25 local government areas of the state.
According to him, “these investment will support farming activities on 120,000 hectares of land across the 25LGAs, create about 2,000 direct jobs and roughly 100,000 indirect jobs with estimated yield of about 500,000 tons of assorted food products per season of both wet and dry season farming. What this mechanization means is bumper harvest for our farmers and less hardship or drudgery” he stated.
In his remarks, the Niger State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Isah Sidi disclosed that the distribution of these tractors signifies a major step towards mechanizing agriculture activities in the State which increases efficiency, ability to cultivate larger areas, improve productivity, and also the provision of essential inputs such as fertilizers, chemicals to achieve optimal yields.
The Minister of Agriculture, Abdullahi Sabi and his counterpart Minister for information and national Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi applauded the governor for the initiative and prioritizing agriculture in the state which is in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
