Niger NLC Organizes Special Interfaith Prayer Session for 37 Miners, Governments

The Niger State Organized Labor has organized labor has organized special interfaith prayer session for the 37 deceased illegal miners, state government and the country at large.

The prayer session which went on simultaneously for both Islam and Christian took place at the labour house in Minna, presided over the the Chief Imam of Minna Central mosque, Sheikh Isah Jibrin held at the labour house, Minna.

The Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, chairman Comrade Abdulkareem Idrees Lafene in an interview shortly after the prayers, said this is to seek spiritual intercession over rising security concerns and socio-economic challenges in the state.

Organized following directives from the NLC national leadership, the session served as a unified platform for labor leaders and religious figures to address critical humanitarian issues affecting local communities.

Speaking, the Chairman of Organized Labour in Niger State, Comrade Abdulkareem Idrees Lafene, stated that the major aim of the gathering was to offer solemn prayers for 37 artisanal miners who recently died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna.

Lafene added that this is also to remember the deceased miners, the interfaith assembly focused on the ongoing security crisis in the State, offering prayers for victims of banditry and praying for the safe release of over 500 individuals currently in captivity of armed bandits across the state.

The representative of the Minna Islamic Clerics (Wakilin Malaman Minna) and Sardaunan Sharifai expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that joint spiritual exercises foster unity, compassion, and resilience among citizens while providing support to government efforts in managing public adversity.

The gathering concluded with calls from labour leaders and clerics to sustain solidarity and community-driven initiatives to foster peace and socio-economic stability across Niger State.
