Suspected Terrorists IED Kills Driver, One Other in Niger State Community

A driver yet to be identified lost his life when his vehicle loaded with yam stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Lumma-Babanna road in Borgu local government of Niger State.
It was reliably gathered that the explosion of IED which occurred around two o’clock on Sunday when the planted bomb by suspected terrorists on the alternative route created beside the recently bombed bridge that cut off Lumma- Babanna boarder to Benin Republic.
Earlier, on same day a motorcycle rider was also shot dead by the terrorists after planting the explosive at the exactly point.
It could be recalled that on 23rd March 2026 around two o’clock in the morning, suspected terrorists suspected to be from the Kainji National park detonated an explosive device and bombed a bridge that connects Lumma-Babanna- New Bussa to Agwara communities.
Security agencies then stated that the bridge was bombed to disrupt security operations in the area in order to ensure their unhindered activities
In addition, the economic activities of the area has been disrupted and deteriorating since the bombing of the bridge that have cut off the communities within the area down to Benin Republic for their commercial activities.
When contacted the spokesperson for the Niger State Command Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the bomb explosion and motorcycle rider who was shot dead by the terrorists.
Similarly, bandits have reportedly kidnapped a yet to be as ascertained number of artisanal miners at a mining site in Mai Dangi, near Mangoro, Mariga local government area of the state.
Residents of the area said that the bandits in their numbers invaded the mining site in the afternoon on Saturday and shot a young girl who attempted to flee after sighting them.
