A professor of Science Education made this disclosure at the 29th Inaugural lecture series of the IBBU Lapai, on the topic: “Mirroring Pre-Service Science Teacher Education Through Evaluation Lens: Reflections on Quality, Globalization and Contemporary Relevance”. held at the main campus in Lapai.

He said that outdated curriculum content of the BMAS created some knowledge gaps and deficiency in the pre-service science teacher preparation which portends negative consequential effects.

Professor Tajordeen Mustapha also revealed that with follow up in science training through the implementation of innovative CL4STEM model TPD and the recently developed CCMAS being implemented the gaps in pre-service science teacher education is being addressed to suit the 21st century and global demands.

Presenting his lecture, he recommended that the NUC should ensure timely review of the CCMAS and consider the content of the pre-service science teacher education curriculum, redefine the objectives and contents of teacher education generally.

He added that teacher education institutions should provide for online courses, virtual engagement and teacher educators are required to rethink the implementation of science education curriculum contents with emphasis on innovative pedagogy, PCK, TPACK and development of 21st century skills.

Professor Mustapha further revealed that standard micro-teaching laboratory be provided for effective implementation of micro-teaching courses through Tetfund support, providing of training and retraining of science teachers, develop pre-service teacher entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial mindset, science teaching and learning.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammed Hadi Suleiman appreciate the deligence and dogged efforts of the university Senate Committee on Seminars and Conferences led by Professor Ebenenzer Oluseun Ogungbe for their relentless efforts in enhancing results.

He stated that the research topic will bring to light the fact that researches in areas of specialization can indeed bring about learning for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), calling for more researches sustainability on various relevant topical issues that were posing threats to Nigerian society and the world at large.
