Vigilantes Neutralise One Bandit in Niger

Vigilantes have reportedly neutralised one bandit at Felegi village in Mashegu LGA of Niger State.

A source from the village said the bandits, who were in large numbers, invaded the community on Sunday evening in an attempt to kidnap residents.

He said some residents were kidnapped, even as vigilantes engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel.

“Our area is not safe but we have no where to go. IDP camps are not conducive and if we decide to move to towns, we would have to rent houses and we don’t have money or any business other than farming.

“When bandits came, they were engaged by our vigilantes and one of them was killed. But they succeeded in kidnapping some of our people “, he said.

Efforts to obtain reactions from the police and the state government were unsuccessful.
